Hailing from Thrissur, Kerala, Muraleedharan was born in Padiyoor, near Irinjalakuda, to Kavalloor Ramparambil Velayudhan and Vallikkutty. He grew up alongside his four sisters: Rajeswari, Ambika, Parimala, and Thara. His academic journey began at Don Bosco EP School and St. Sebastian UP School in Padiyoor, followed by BVM High School in Kalparambu. He later earned his bachelor's degree from Christ College, Irinjalakuda, and completed his studies in secretarial practice at Pullur ITC.
After working in various roles in Mumbai for three years, Muraleedharan moved to Saudi Arabia, where he currently resides. Shaped by his diverse experiences in India and abroad, his writing reflects a profound sensitivity to human suffering and resilience. The transition from the rustic beauty of his Kerala village to the bustling streets of Mumbai and, ultimately, the isolating landscapes of the Gulf heavily influences his narratives. His works frequently tackle themes of love, loneliness, hunger, power, and the quiet struggles of everyday existence.
Muraleedharan is married to Bindu, and the couple has two daughters, Meera and Meenakshi.
Kavalloore Muraleedharan is a distinct and evocative voice in contemporary Malayalam literature, celebrated for his ability to bridge raw, everyday realities with profound philosophical inquiries. His writing offers readers a deep dive into the complexities of the human mind, characterized by a poetic yet highly analytical approach to life's most intense emotions.
Drawing from his own experiences, Muralidharan masterfully captures the profound isolation, identity crises, and emotional displacement of expatriates, portraying the Pravasi journey not just as a physical relocation but as a continuous internal struggle for belonging.
He frequently shatters traditional storytelling molds in works like Vishappu and Dhayavadham, abandoning conventional plots and character arcs to focus purely on the silent emotional battles of the human psyche. In his narratives, love is rarely just a simple romance; in novels like Deepakshi and Portofino, it is depicted as a solitary, intense, and sometimes painful spiritual journey that brings both profound healing and existential confusion.
His stories also serve as a mirror to modern society, critiquing political hypocrisy, corporate exploitation, and the loss of human connection. From the rustic villages of Kerala to the shores of the Italian Riviera, nature acts as a powerful, grounding force in his writing, constantly reflecting the turbulent emotions of his protagonists.
Kavalloore Muralidharan’s writing is a celebration of human resilience. He does not shy away from the dark or painful aspects of life; instead, he uses them to highlight the enduring strength of the human spirit.
